EDF to take £3.3bn from current power plants
One of Britain's largest energy suppliers, could be on course to a £1bn bonanza every year for the next three years. Under an immensely controversial government draft auction which commences on Tomorrow the 16th December 2014 will blanket all of EDF’s present coal and nuclear power plants.
As you would expect the scheme has come under substantial censure in due of the financial expense which the subsidies will have to be greeted by. Of course this will be payed out by consumers… Although it’s estimated to be an additional £14 a year, it has also been subject to scrutiny by an esteemed leading industry member. EDF, to a great extent is owned through the French state, has put forward a total of 10 power plants which will qualify for the scheme.
Opponents E.ON and SSE are also en route for possible subsidies for their coal plants.
How Ironic that on one hand the UK government has been non stop propelling for vigorous climate action and on the other our hand is allowing our largest energy companies to bid for billions of energy payers money, which ultimately will be delineated to a handful of Britain's filthiest polluting power stations?
Perhaps instead of looking to prop up murky power stations there should be more incentives to reduce energy reliance through supporting technologies such as demand response or efficient electric radiators which could save millions on consumers bills.
A new generation of electric radiators incorporates highly accurate digital thermostats and a 24 hour, seven day a week built in program management system. Demand response embodies changes in customer electric usage from their normal consumption design as a consequence of price fluctuation.
The capacity market was primary constructed to retain our lights on at the most efficient feasible cost. This design while victorious in the United States has occurred in a one sided view over erecting new assets to bolster supply signifying that low cost technologies for controlling demand has been disregarded.
This program is certain to increase energy bills unnecessarily which would not be required if we invested through building demand flexibility for those who desire to utilise it.
My Electric Radiators are compassionate when it comes to broadcasting the latest views and news in anything energy related. They are also suppliers of energy efficient heating systems which are surprisingly attentive in decreasing your carbon footprint and lower your energy bills.
