Households will pay £4.2 bn too much for their energy bills over the next eight years
According to one of Britain's biggest energy suppliers, British Gas. Households will pay an eye watering £4.2bn too much for their energy bills over the next eight years.
British Gas has stated that energy network companies who hold responsibility for the electricity cables and gas pipelines that feed homes from the national grid are charging excessive amounts which is consequently adding to consumers bills. These Network costs already account for £288 of the average bill - Which stands at over a 5th - will rise further in line with inflation over the next eight years. British Gas who collect the charges on behalf of the electricity network firms state that the amounts consumers will pay, will be overly generous. British Gas has requested for National Audit Office to review how the companies are regulated.
